Spending time outdoors is good for our mental, physical, and spiritual health.
Those who exercise or engage in recreational activities outdoors tend to do so longer than if they did so indoors.
Studies suggest Adults and Children who spend significant time outdoors routinely express feelings of peacefulness, and an appreciation for beauty and wonder.
THE WHY. THE WAY.
In the 1990s, the Green Valley Athletic Club - an upscale athletic health and racquet club in Henderson, Nevada - rocked an annual walk and run called the Super Sole on Super Bowl Weekend. It benefitted organizations such as Clark County's Child Haven. The event was organized by a group of young, go-getter health club industry professionals. I was lucky to be among them.
Though the Club has been closed for years, the concept of holding a Super Bowl weekend event that benefitted a community cause, offered friendly competition, and got people outdoors burning off calories before they piled a plate full of dip and Frito-Lays and dip was brilliant and a blast!
I didn't come up with the Club's race concept, yet I've long mused about a way to revive some aspect of it. The Super Sole to Soul Challenge is that idea ... with a nature, spirit, and DYI twist!
I've been asked if the event will raise funds for The Compass. Ask when the next football season kicks off (about August), friends!
